BUYING U.S. COINS

Let’s face it, you can sell your old coins to a thousand rare coin companies.

Everyone extols they will pay “top dollar”, so why sell to Fred Sweeney Rare Coins? Allow me to offer a few reasons:

  • My word is my bond & my money is good. If we say we have a deal, I’ll back it up with an instant payment as soon as I take possession of your coins.
  • I’m easy to work with - none of those silly age-old tactics of browbeating you or tales of a weak market (that’s a laugh) or downplaying your coins.
  • Funds are always available. No partial payments or consignments unless you prefer it that way. If your coins are worth $5,000.00 or seven figures, I’m a ready buyer.
  • I’ll work on a fair margin. I don’t need to make a zillion dollars on your goods. Allow me a working profit & we can do business.
  • What will I buy? IF you have some better coins & common stuff, I’ll buy it ALL. This will save you time from offering the coins to two or three buyers. However, I’m NOT looking for “mom & pop” accumulations of miscellaneous coins found in circulation, nor partial sets of current coins or mounds of U.S. Mint issues bought in the last few years. Again, if it is part of a deal with RARE coins, I will buy the later issues, too.
  • We can work out a deal whereby you mail your coins to me for an instant offer. If you don’t like my price, I’ll immediately pay to have everything returned via insured mail. Or I’ll fly to buy if your collection has enough value to warrant the expense & difficulty of traveling. I only ask that you are really ready to sell & not just looking for a free appraisal. I don’t expect a guarantee from you, only a fair chance to purchase your coins.
  • I’ve been buying & selling rare coins since the 1950’s & have owned my own company since 1968. As you can easily see, I’m not one of the newcomers in the market. If you want to deal with one of the old-line dealers who understands your dilemma of letting these “old friends” go & respects the value of your coins, contact me.

What about auctions? You may have seen ads extolling coins that have recently auctioned for astronomical prices. This may be true for the crème-de-la-crème, but what about the pedestrian coins? Unless you know which coins to auction, it could lead to a disappointment. Remember, it isn’t unusual for 10,000 coins (or more) to be sold by auction houses every month (not counting eBay)! As you can see, it’s easy to be lost in the shuffle. Also, did you know that a large percentage of the buyers are dealers purchasing for resale? Think about it, then decide if you want to take control of the sale of your coins or find out their value after they are auctioned.
